Lanka Muslim Congress raises human rights issue with Norwegian envoy

SLanka-Muslims-Norway
The European Union is to inquire into human rights violations in Sri Lanka on a recommendation by the co-chairs to the Tokyo Donors’ Conference, visiting Norwegian peace envoy Jon Hanssen-Bauer told Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakeem.

The SLMC earlier called for an independent and impartial investigation into the spree of disappearances and killings in Sri Lanka including the slaying of 17 aid workers in Muttur and 10 Muslim laborers in Pottuvil, Colombo Page reported from Colombo.

SLMC leader said he had also received an invitation to visit Oslo to discuss issues pertaining to the grievances of the Muslim community in the North and East.

The SLMC welcomes the peace talks but reiterates the need to address a Muslim role in the discussions, Hakeem said. It insists on a complete secession of hostilities before talks begin, he added.
