10 October 2006 Iran to host 7th Asian Parliaments’ Association for Peace meetIran-Parliament-Session Addressing a Majlis open session, he said that senior experts of six Asian member countries participating in the 7th meeting will hold their second session in Tehran this week, adding that the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) had called for holding of the session to consider making the Asian Parliaments’ Association for Peace into a parliamentary assembly. "The Asian Parliaments Association for Peace was established in 1999 upon the initiative of Bangladesh to establish peace and prepare the ground for development. "Currently, the association, with 39 member states and some 60 percent of Asia’s population, is the biggest international organization in Asia," he said. Aboutorabi-Fard expressed hope the Tehran meeting would be a major stride in efforts to improve cooperation of the international Asian organization with Majlis deputies and other responsible bodies. He also hoped Asia would play a greater role in drafting regional and international treaties. The sixth meeting of the association was held in Thailand in November 2005 which ended with a final statement in 32 articles. The confab was attended by representatives of 29 member states and six non-members along with two observers. An Iranian parliamentary delegation, headed by Aboutorabi-Fard, attended the sixth meeting in Thailand. End. |
